The authority is called the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA), formerly the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority. It is a statutory national medicines regulatory body established under the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013 of the Laws of Zambia, under the Ministry of Health.
