The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) is Japan's national regulatory authority responsible for ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in Japan. PMDA operates as an independent administrative institution under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) and is similar in function to the US FDA or the European Medicines Agency.
