Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines are a class of psychoactive drugs that enhance the effect of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA in the CNS, producing anxiolytic, sedative–hypnotic, muscle‑relaxant, and anticonvulsant effects. They are widely prescribed but carry significant risks of dependence, withdrawal, and overdose, especially when combined with other CNS depressants such as opioids or alcohol.
