With excellent production quality and extensive research facilities, Contipro is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of hyaluronic acid and derived applications. The holding places a huge emphasis on innovation and in-house research, which explains why almost 40% of its employees are R&D lab experts. An umbrella for all is provided by the parent, Contipro Group, a service company set up in 2004 to cover technological support, administration and all business activities. Through its distribution networks, the holding exports 95% of its output to more than 50 countries worldwide. A recent study showed that Contipro currently controls 60% of the European and 30% of the world market in hyaluronan. The oldest of the holding’s companies, Contipro Pharma, specializes in the manufacture of sodium hyaluronate pharmaceutical grade and other active substances for the pharmaceutical industry and finished pharmaceutical products made from hyaluronic acid. Contipro Biotech, which produces hyaluronic acid cosmetic grade and other active ingredients for products to counter the effects of skin ageing, was founded in 1997. Relatively recently, in early 2012 was founded Contipro France. Our new sales office was set to improve our quality of service and strive to forge ever closer links with customers. Contipro France represents both the cosmetic and pharmaceutical portfolio of Contipro in a country steeped in a tradition of cosmetics and elegance. The name “Contipro” is a composite of “connective tissue products”, which are widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The company’s founders, Vladimír Velebný, with many years’ experience in academic research, and Petr Pinkas, from the Prague Institute of Microbiology, aware of this from the outset, decided, in 1990, to put the results of their research to use in the private sector. The long-term goal was to make their mark in biopharmaceuticals, one of the most promising branches of the pharmaceutical industry. However, they lacked the expensive equipment and facilities required for intensive research in order to carry out their plan. This stumbling block was resolved by the ingenuity and patience of the founders. Armed with determination and know-how, they began to produce nutritional supplements in a domestic food processor, which they sold to the fitness centres mushrooming at the time. They invested their first million in biotechnology research and the purchase of equipment. In the space of just two years, their vision started to become reality. They set up their first fermentation line, launching the production of hyaluronic acid. This strategy of investing much of the profits in research and development paid off for Contipro. Six years down the line, the company was in a position where it could complement the manufacture of ingredients for cosmetics with top-quality raw materials for pharmaceuticals.
