API Description: Elafibranor is a dual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) α and β/δ agonist that works to inhibit bile acid synthesis. On June 10, 2024, elafibranor was granted accelerated approval by the FDA for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). The drug was also approved by the EMA on September 23, 2024. Elafibranor is an orally available peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor agonist that is used in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid to treat primary biliary cholangitis. Elafibranor therapy is associated with rare instances of worsening of liver enzymes during therapy but has not been convincingly linked to episodes of clinically apparent liver injury with jaundice.
