Supplier Description: Roussel Uclaf S.A. was a major French pharmaceutical company and one of the key predecessors of today’s global pharmaceutical giant Sanofi. The company played a pivotal role in pharmaceutical innovation, most notably as the original developer of mifepristone (RU-486), the widely known abortion pill. Roussel Uclaf was a leading French pharmaceutical firm until its acquisition by Hoechst AG, a German chemical and pharmaceutical company, in 1997. After acquisition, Roussel Uclaf’s pharmaceutical operations were merged into Hoechst Marion Roussel (HMR) in the United States. HMR later merged with Rhône-Poulenc in 1999 to form Aventis, which subsequently merged with Sanofi-Synthélabo in 2004, creating Sanofi-Aventis (now Sanofi). Roussel Uclaf’s agrochemical division was transferred to Hoechst Schering AgrEvo GmbH in 1994, which later became part of Bayer CropScience. - Show More
