API Description: Norbuprenorphine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of norbuprenorphine, which is a major active metabolite of the opioid modulator buprenorphine. Norbuprenorphine acts as a full agonist at μ-opioid, δ-opioid, and nociceptin receptors and as a partial agonist at κ-opioid receptors. It has potent respiratory depressant effects but relatively little pain-relieving (antinociceptive) effect compared to buprenorphine because it has limited ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, partly due to being a substrate of the P-glycoprotein efflux transporter.
